School went back today and I am reacquainting myself with a quiet studio space.
No visitors, no “is there room for my sewing machine in here?”, no “I promise I’ll be quiet” sprawling across the floor, and no piles of school books waiting to be ‘contacted’ nagging from the corner.
I began the day with some decluttering in the studio. It’s what I instinctively need to do when I am about to start afresh, usually after completing one body of work and beginning another. (It also happens to be a great way to procrastinate!). I then needed a minute to take it all in and focus before diving in. I set up a little altar to mark the auspicious return to creative work for the year with some offerings to my muse.
I find it really grounding to take a moment to stop, breathe and reconnect with my intentions and inspirations It helps prevent anxiety and overwhelm and instead brings a sense of focus and purpose to my work.
What rituals do you practice to help keep things in check?
